Lycamobile introduces 4G in Spain with Telefonica
Lycamobile continues its string of international 4G launches with Telefonica in Spain, bringing faster connectivity to their 1.93 million Spanish subscribers. It’s their 11th country with 4G coverage, following the UK based MVNO’s 4G switch-ons last year in Australia (October) and Sweden (November).
The company explained that Spain’s high smartphone penetration, data usage and migrant population all make rolling out a 4G service in the country a strong proposition.
Lycamobile group chairman Allirajah Subaskaran commented on the news stating, ‘The introduction of 4G services in Spain demonstrates our commitment to Lycamobile customers in the country, who will benefit from the availability of fast, high-quality data. With approximately 10% of Spain’s population being made up of foreign-born citizens, this development will make it quicker and easier than ever for our customers to connect with their communities and loved ones across the globe.’
The international MVNO has also experienced growth elsewhere in 2017, acquiring Belgian MVNO Ortel in February, launching a service in South Africa in March in collaboration with Cell C and it has also been reported by Daily Nation that they are close to launching in Kenya.
